KATHMANDU, APR 16 – The Central Committee of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has decided to hold the final rites of former Prime Minister and party’s founder chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa with full state honours. An emergency meeting of the party Central Committee on Thursday has decided to perform Thapa’s final rites at Pashupati Aryaghat on Friday evening.
At the meeting, the RPP CC members expressed sorrow on the demise of its senior leader and passed a condolence proposal.
The meeting held at party Chairperson Pashupati Shumser JB Rana’s residence at Maharajgunj has concluded that the sudden passing away of former PM and Constituent Assembly (CA) member Thapa while undergoing treatment in New Delhi has caused irreparable loss to the party.
The country has lost a statesman voicing for timely promulgation of a new constitution through consensus to put an end to the protracting transition, the proposal stated. “It is a big loss to the party and the entire country”.
The meeting also extended heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and wished for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Thapa’s body would be brought to Kathmandu this afternoon via a special aircraft of the Indian government.
RPP Deputy Spokesperson Kiran Giri informed that Thapa’s dead body will be kept at his residence, Maligaun, till Friday morning. His dead body will be kept at party office, Chawahil, at 10 am tomorrow morning and in Dasharath Stadium for final tribute from 12.00 on Friday.
The final rites of late Thapa will be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat on Friday.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand-led RPP has also expressed his condolence on the passing away of Thapa.
An emergency meeting was called at party central office Anamnagar at 1.00 pm today regarding Thapa’s demise, stated a release issued by Party Publicity Committee Coordinator Meena Subedi .
