NC’s Khadka wins Baglung by-election

BAGLUNG, APR 12 – Nepali Congress candidateChampa Devi Khadka has won the Constituent Assembly by-election in Baglung constituency-1 on Sunday. She secured 17, 154 votes against her closest rival CPN-UML’s Man Kumari KC who garnered 15,068 votes, while UCPN (Maoist) candidate Krishna Bahadur KC settled for 2,505 votes.

The Baglung Constituency No. 1 was lying vacant after the demise of Nepali Congress lawmaker Hari Bahadur Khadka in a road accident last December. NC candidate Champa Devi Khadka is the widow of deceased Khadka.

The voting was conducted by using electronic machine on Saturday. According to election commission officials, 73.34 per cent votes were cast in the poll.

A total of 13 candidates including three independent were in the fray for the post of CA member from the constituency. Of the total 52,202 voters, 38,290 had taken part in the election.
