One room for two grades in Upper Manang school

LAMJUNG, APR 12 – The students of Bhraka Primary School in Upper Manang do not have proper classrooms to learn to read and write.

The school building has nine rooms, three of which are being used as offices and library. The remaining four rooms are the only classrooms in the school where the students from grade one to five study. “Classes for grade two and grade three are run in a same room,” said Amrit Adhikari, the school headmaster.

The school also lacks other essential infrastructure and teaching materials. Unable to provide staff quarters for its teachers, the school has put up three teachers in one of the classrooms. “They share the classroom to sleep at night,” Adhikari said.

The school has 21 students, but not everyone attend their classes regularly.

Adhikari believes that the school could improve its student attendance rate, even attract other children, if the concerned authorities help them build a decent learning place.
