Baglung by-election vote count begins (Update)
BAGLUNG, APR 12 – Counting of the votes in the by-election held Saturday for the vacant seat in Baglung Constituency no.1 of the district has begun, following an all-party consensus sometime ago.
The counting supposed to start at 7:00 am this morning was delayed after the CPN-UML expressed some reservations. The party had put a condition of releasing its cadres arrested a day before the election for it to take part in the voting counting.
According to chief returning officer Hari Prasad Joshi, counting of votes has already been completed in 25 of the 70 polling centres.
As per the latest count, Nepali Congress’ Champa Khadka is leading with 5,752 votes followed by Mana KC of UML with 5,480. UCPN (Maoist)’s Krishna KC is trailing at the third position with 1,193 votes.
A total of 13 candidates including three independent were in the fray for the post of CA member from the constituency. Of the total 42,202 voters, 38,018 had taken part in the election.
The Baglung Constituency No. 1 is lying vacant after the demise of Nepali Congress lawmaker Hari Bahadur Khadka in a road accident in last December.
