CA chair Nembang says new statute thru process if no consensus within April 13

Kathmandu, April 10: Chairman of the Constituent Assembly (CA) Subas Chandra Nembang says the process for the promulgation of the new constitution would be forwarded if political parties failed to forge consensus within April 13.

At a programme organised by the Koirala Sewa Samaj Nepal here today, Chairman Nembang said that there was no alternative to forward the process as per the rule of the CA if political parties failed to forge consensus on the disputed issues of the constitution or the due process within the next three days.

He said, “Promulgating the new constitution is a national campaign. It is necessary to exert positive pressure to top leaders from all the people for the promulgation of the new constitution soon.”

The CA Chairman said the political parties however were not interested in promulgating the new constitution.

Similarly, Chief Election Commissioner Nilkantha Upreti urged the political parties to issue the new statute as soon as possible through consensus, saying development construction works are under the shadow as the political parties have spent a long time in promulgation of new constitution.

Likewise, CPN (UML) leader Kamal Koirala and lawmaker Ashok Koirala also expressed their views.

On the occasion, this year’s ‘Dittha Kul Prasad Koirala National Award-2071’ was presented to the Bhuwaneshwor Namuna Briddha Sewashram, Sarlahi, (an old-age home).

The award, carrying a purse of Rs 25,000, was presented to patron of Sewashram, Basudev Sharan Koirala.

The old-age home was established in 2055 BS and some 50 senior citizens are now taking shelter. RSS
