Chain-snatchers rob four women, police still clueless
APR 02 – Four women have been looted by motorcycle-borne robbers in similar fashion at various places in Nepalgunj, creating fear among people in the sub-metropolis of them being victim to similar attacks.
Two unidentified motorcycle-borne men had robbed jewelries of four women in the space of few minutes in the city on Sunday evening. Eyewitnesses said the looters dazzled light on the victim’s face before snatching away gold necklaces right off their necks and quickly fled from the scene. Although the victims immediately informed the police about the matter, but the security personnel are clueless about the chain snatchers and their modus operandi and have found no leads.
The two looters had snatched a gold chain from Manju Poudel’s neck at around 7:30pm in Nepalgunj-13 on Sunday. Within 30 minutes after the incident, Hemkala Banjade was also looted in a similar fashion. Durga Shah of Naubasta and Sarita Gurung of Belaspur also lodged complaints at the police saying that the gold chains they were wearing were forcefully snatched away by motorcycle-borne men the same evening.
Venting their anger and disgust over the rising crimes, they accused the security personnel of failing to provide security in the area. They claim that the police are not taking the series of chain snatching incidents seriously and have neither shown any interest nor commitment to arrest the looters.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sushil Singh Rathour, however, said that the search is on to nab the culprits as per the information provided by the victims. “We are closing on the looters. We suspect that the same gang has been involved in the recent spate of chain snatching incidents in the city,” he said.
